Why Do We Crave Stress? If we grew up in chaotic homes, we can equate intensity with love and aliveness. It becomes a security blanket that suffocates our ability to more thoroughly enjoy life. Becoming aware of this and slowing down is the antidote. We associate intensity with normalcy and even love. Growing up in unpredictable environments conditioned us to feel unhealthy stressors as natural. Stress becomes a familiar security blanket. Witnessing rage spirals at home as children may unconsciously have us seeking chaos as adults. Stress and drama makes us feel most alive. As adults craving these stress hormones and becoming aware of how they show up in our body can teach us the pathway out. Slowing down and increasing our awareness is the antidote. When we slow down and become more mindful of what's going on around us, we can better appreciate the nuances of calmer experiences.
