Finding the Right BalanceAnything taken to an extreme can become problematic. We don’t need to attend to all feelings and all thoughts. We can too often get caught up in overprocessing every minutiae and lose other more important aspects of our present moment experience. Instead, allowing ourselves to feel what we feel — without turning up/down the volume — gives us the opportunity to address anything that deserves our attention. Not every emotion we have is meant to be deeply felt or processed. Not every thought we have is suppose to pull our attention. Maturity is knowing which feelings and thoughts deserve our time. We need to avoid overindulging or obsessing on one side and denying or minimizing on the other. When we allow ourselves to feel what we feel organically, without turning up or down the volume, we get what we need to out of it. Feeling our feelings as much as is useful allows us to learn, heal and grow.
