Finding Balance with Our Feelings
“Feeling our feelings” can be taken to an extreme where we’re doing it 24/7.
This is about striking the right balance between overindulging & ruminating on one side and denying or ignoring on the other.
Taking intentional and conscious breaks along the way can help give us temporary relief we need to complete the process.
Yes, we need to "feel our feelings" but that doesn't mean we have to overindulge 24/7.
It can be absolutely needed to take breaks and focus elsewhere so that we can have the ability to later feel again in a helpful way.
Being with our feelings also means finding a balance, not ignoring but also not obsessing.
It's okay to check out, tune out, binge watch, log off, and numb out some of the time in a conscious and intentional way.
It's healthy to respect our own personal limits and capacity.
It's also healthy to mindfully push our comfort level in certain moments when that's needed too.
This is about finding the right balance based on the current context.
Taking a break isn't avoiding, it's intentionally caring for ourselves by providing a moment of relief.
