Our Desire for Dating Certainty
Sometimes our desire for certainty in the dating process produces some really poor advice.
Instead, we can learn from our mistakes, be authentic and develop our own internal compass in the process.
Examples of Poor Dating Advice:
1. When you meet the right person you will know.
Instead: Relationships in the beginning can be confusing and it's important to allow yourself space to live in the grey.
2. Wait until it's serious to have sex.
Instead: There is no right time to have sex other than when it feels right. There is no shame in exploring your intimacy with a potential partner.
3. Wait until discussing certain topics.
Instead: It's important to be authentic and share your truest self. There's no perfect timeline for when to share certain information.
4. If you can't be happy single then you can't be happy in a relationship.
Instead: The quality of any relationship, including the one we have with ourselves is constantly changing. Relationships helps us grow too.
Every relationship is imperfect. Build a relationship with a partner that wants to grow with you.
